Do you have suggestions to help us save our floor?

I live in Baja, Ca. on the Sea of Cortes and (http://maplered.com) have Stone (http://g603.net) floors mined from the Mulege mountain area! My husband (http://maplered.com) did not put down a vapor barrier and (http://maplered.com) as the years go by the grout is getting efflourecense and (http://maplered.com) then crumbles and (http://maplered.com) pops out and (http://maplered.com) the surrounding Stone (http://g603.net) /slash slate crumbles around the edges! The Stone (http://g603.net) /slate also absorbs water during humid times and (http://maplered.com) kind of spreads like a fungus and (http://maplered.com) does not get wet on the same Stone (http://g603.net) s on the same day! We are trying to decide if it is worth salvaging the Stone (http://g603.net) by digging up and (http://maplered.com) cleaning with vinegar and (http://maplered.com) laying a vapor barrier and (http://maplered.com) then relaying the Stone (http://g603.net) -the sand (http://maplered.com) here is unwashed sand (http://maplered.com) !
